Santorini, Greece — Scooters, Sunsets & a Side of Salt
In July 2018, we arrived in Santorini and started our 7-day trip by renting a scooter at the airport.
We stayed in Perissa, a quiet beach town with black sand, sunbeds, and tavernas near the sea. Our Airbnb was cozy and close to the beach. Perissa is more affordable than places like Oia.
We rode our scooter to Fira, explored shops, ate gyros (vegetarian options available), and spent a night in a traditional cave house.
We visited Oia and Amoudi Bay, known for their beautiful views and cliffside dining. If you visit in summer, book restaurants in advance because it gets crowded and hot. Remember to stay hydrated and use sunscreen.
Santorini is touristy, but it’s worth visiting.
Vegetarians can enjoy dishes like moussaka, fava bean purée, Greek salads, and spanakopita. Local groceries are good for quick snacks, and many cafes understand vegetarian requests.
Before leaving, we took a ferry to Ios Island, which is less crowded, more affordable, and has great beaches.
Tip: Visit during off-peak times, use a scooter to get around, and enjoy the scenery.
